This is one of my favorite pictures of Malia so far in her five short years of life! Her face is so beautiful and hilarious and cute, all at the same time. It is a picture of happiness and joy. She makes this face every once in a while and I LOVE IT.
What I love about Malia here is something we all love about young children: the ability to find joy in small (to us trivial) things. I think this is a large part of what Jesus meant when He said we must be like children to enter the Kingdom of God. Malia made this face once when she tried to catch a baby gecko. She has made this face over playing in the rain, bugs, little “treasures” she finds on the ground, etc. She is so happy with something so simple. It is sad that it takes so much to entertain or bring adults happiness. We can find fault in anything and with ever increasing technology it gets harder and harder to impress us. Louis C.K. said it very well on Conan twice - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEY58fiSK8E and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HbYScltf1c (Warning: he does have some crude language.) Malia however can find joy in things that cost nothing and that other people find mundane. May it ever be so!
